Soprema, much like the Reliant project, was another client that requested a design refresh on just a few portions of their website rather than a revamp of the entire site. They had complaints that their menu and overcomplicated dropdowns were giving users trouble, as well as experiencing issues with the user flow on the single product pages. These types of partial redesign projects are a fun challenge that I really enjoy, as I get to become familiar with a design language and find ways to fit into what is already there but improve upon it.
Soprema’s primary user group is roofing contractors, so taking a contractor’s specific needs into account helped guide the design decisions I made for the primary and secondary menus. I also had to develop a good understanding of the client’s products and we worked together to categorize them into three levels of hierarchy so their users could effectively find what they are looking for without confusion.
Once the menu design was finalized I moved on to the individual product page design. This was a challenge because of the sheer amount of information the client needed to be able to display on each product page, and because of how variable that information could be in terms of content length, type, and overall functionality. Contractor’s cannot purchase directly from the site, so the purpose of the product page is not to push sales but actually to provide essential information to contractors, especially in the form of documentation.
