Angry Amish Jeans

Angry Amish Jeans is a line of clothing started by Kevin Koch, a local tailor. He created the design of the jeans based on the zipperless broadfall front style of traditional Amish pants with a modern twist. When we discussed his vision for his new website he explained that he loved to play with the blending of fresh updated trends and traditional styles and that was the inspiration for his new line of jeans. I started on the homepage with this idea of traditional+modern in mind.

Keeping the design clean, and photo-centric was the primary focus, while still working in some hints at a more traditional feel by using a seriffed supporting font and playing with texture. To work texture into the design, we spent some time going through his fabric sample books and picking out specific colors and finishes. I photographed the chosen samples and used these photos throughout the site design. Utilizing textures like this brought a feeling of warmth to the site and emphasized the quality of the fabric his clothing is made from.

To keep the user focused on the primary goal of viewing the unique clothing designs, I made the decision to keep the menu options hidden behind a hamburger menu icon rather than displaying all available pages across the top. Offering too many options would only have distracted the user from the primary goal. If the user then chooses to find out about the company or get their questions answered, they can explore the site further and learn more.
